Our pigs free range in a natural environment, are fed quality foods of (non GM)crushed mixed grain, fruit and vegetables and milk from our milking cow.

Another likeminded farmer friend, Chris from Penddraig Parc with similar farming practices to us also breeds rare old English free-range pigs, most being Wessex Saddleback. We swap breeding stock thus avoiding interbreeding. When our stock is low we buy in young piglets from Chris, we raise them until ready for processing.

Penddraig Parc specialises in breeding and selling APBA registered livestock.

WESSEX SADDLEBACK PIGS

We breed Wessex Saddleback pigs, an old English breed listed as ‘critically endangered’ by the Rare Breeds Trust of Australia. Our breeding stock is registered with The Australian Pig Breeders Association Limited (APBA). This means we can trace their bloodlines from previous generations and generations to come. In an ever increasing mass produced and homogenised world, we are trying to maintain a genetic diversity by breeding and selling our ‘rare breed’ pigs.

Saddlebacks are well suited to a free-range environment, are considered one of the best eating pigs and are in high demand by chefs and food lovers. They are slower maturing than the commercial breed, but quality always comes at a price and the saddleback pork is worth the wait. We do not “clip” their teeth or “dock” their tails and they are not “nose ringed” either, so they can dig and play in the mud and dirt to their hearts content.
